More than a dozen artists played the historic stage at the Ryman Auditorium, February 27, 2910 to benefit relief efforts in Haiti. Help Haiti Live brought together Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, Big Kenny, Jon Foreman of Switchfoot, Jars of Clay, Mat Kearney, Brandon Heath, Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz and the rock group NEEDTOBREATHE.
The group of artists played to a nearly sold out crowd at the Ryman and the money raised will go to the group Compassion International.
The charity has had a presence in Haiti for more than four decades.
"The families are looking to Compassion to respond and they've responded already. They've helped around 30,000 people," Brandon Heath said.
The people who attended the Help Haiti Live concert knew they would hear some great music, but they also knew they were doing their part to help the earthquake-ravaged nation.
"You know, my mom and I were talking about just how much we have to be thankful for and it's an opportunity to give back, help that community, that country to rebuild," concert goer Kelly Barnes said.
All the artist involved with the concert donated their time and said they were happy to do so.
"The idea that we can use our music and our talents and what we love to do to change people's lives, it's a joy and actually a privilege," according to Steve Mason with the group Jars of Clay.
Gibson donated a guitar to the relief effort. All of the artists who took part in Saturday's concert signed that guitar and it will be part of any on-line auction to raise money for Compassion International.
